| PATIENT INFORMATION |
| There is information on several topics which we feel are important for patients to know. This information is addressed to patients with particular conditions, but may be of interest to all our patients. Please feel free to ask any of our staff any questions which this or any other information in this web site may evoke. |
PREMEDICATION
|
| Premedication is necessary for patients who have a heart murmur, mitrovalve prolapse, a pin or other inserted "foreign matter" to repair an injury. Under most circumstances, such patients would be required to take an antibiotic like amoxicillin an hour before any dental procedure. This procedure is a precautionary measure to ward off the possibility of infection. |
INFECTION CONTROL
|
|
Our office continues to keep up to date on all matter
regarding infection control. The regulatory, governmental
body, OSHA, sets up guidelines for all health-related
practices to follow. We follow and exceed those guidelines.
Just some of the procedures we follow routinely to ensure
your safety and the safety of our staff are:
1. Before each patient is cared for, every operatory is cleaned and disinfected with special cleaners. 2. Every year, we participate in special training sessions regarding standards set by OSHA and conducted by MEDSAFE. 3. All instruments and handpieces are steam sterilized. 4. We make Hepatitis B vaccinations available to every staff member who comes in contact with patients. 5. We use protective gear, when indicated. 6. We use disposable equipment, when indicated. 7. Every member of the practice who comes into direct contact with patients, is required to wear medical "linens," such as surgical scrubs, gowns, tunics and lab coats. 8. We carefully follow specific guidelines for the disposal any potentially infectious materials or hazardous waste. |
