The Dark Side of Gatorade

In a startling study at the University' of Maryland, researchers found that drinking sports beverages such as Gatorade, Powerade or Propel, energy drinks such as Red Bull or KMX. and other flavored fare such as Snapple may do much more damage to pearly whites than soda (remember the urban legend that dropping a nail in a can of Coke will make the nail corrode?). Researchers exposed healthy teeth to various flavored drinks for two continuous weeks and found the seemingly healthier thirst quenchers caused up to 11 times more erosion of tooth enamel than Coca-Cola. Can't live without Gatorade? Try sipping the drink through a straw, which researchers say significantly reduces damage.
