Dental Bonding

We begin most of our conversations with a smile. Dental bonding, also known as composite resin bonding, may be the best choice for improving the appearance of damaged or unsightly teeth. Bonding is a technique whereby teeth can actually be covered reshaped or contoured by placing a plastic material on the exterior of the stained or damaged tooth.

Here's how it's done:
A mild acidic compound is placed is placed on the affected or damaged teeth. This compound creates a rough surface that will bond the plastic material tightly to each tooth surface. Next, a liquid plastic resin is molded onto the tooth. A special light is directed on the area to harden it or let the liquid "cure" on its own. The light is absolutely safe and poses no hazzard to the patient. Several layer of plastic applications accompanied by mechanical contouring may be necessary to cover or fill the defect and to ensure the shape of the tooth remains natural.

The amount of treatment time will depend on the extent of the repair and results desired by the doctor and patient.
