Dental Sealants

A sealant is a clear or shaded plastic material that is applied to the chewing surface of permanent back teeth. This is where decay occurs most often. It is an extremely simple dental procedure which can help protect or reduce the incidence of decay. Sealants are bonded to the grooves of the molars and light cured intoplace.

No anesthesia or drilling is necessary. A sealant is invisible and the protective effects are important in the prevention of tooth decay. A study in the Journal of the American Dental Assoc. concluded that teeth not covered by sealants were almost eight times more likely to develope decay than sealed teeth.

Since sealants are placed by the dental hygienist, they can be incorporated into a child's regular dental check-up. Just call our office for more information on how to Seal out Decay
